Akshay Kumar wears a Perrelet Dipteros

Rustom (2016) retells the K.M. Nanavati case of 1959, the murder trial that helped end jury trials in India: a decorated naval officer shoots his wife's lover, turns himself in, and becomes a national cause. Tinu Suresh Desai directs, with Akshay Kumar as Commander Rustom Pavri.

His watch is a Perrelet Dipteros, supplied by the brand itself. The film was Perrelet's Bollywood debut, and for it the company lent the original Dipteros from its historic collection. Released in 1995, the Dipteros was the world's first watch with a double rotor, a second winding weight that swings in view on the dial; its name nods to 1777, the year the brand's namesake, Abraham-Louis Perrelet, is credited with inventing self-winding. None of that is period-correct: the film is set in 1959, and the watch is a piece from the 1990s.
